VENUE
Finland is a
Nordic country situated between Russia and Sweden. Finland is known for its midnight sun, thousands
of lakes, pristine nature and high technology.
The workshop will be held at University of Jyväskylä, in Agora building located on the Mattilanniemi Campus. The compact city centre of Jyväskylä offers a combination of urban pace spiced with the traditions of years past. The Jyväskylä Region is bound up with the fascinating, rugged scenery of Lake Päijänne. Finland's deepest and longest lake, Päijänne features a number of pretty harbours and unique tourist attractions along its shores. The real pearl is the city's pedestrian precinct, the fun heart of the city, the venue for a wide range of summer events. The Harju ridge forming the backdrop to the city centre is the best known of Jyväskylä's observation points and green areas. Leading to its summit, a set of massive stone steps is flanked in summer by a veritable sea of flowers. The area contains a network of footpaths, a sports ground, summer theatre and - in the Vesilinna water tower - Central Finland Natural History Museum, and observation platform and panoramic restaurant.
The university is
one of the largest, most attractive and dynamic research-universities in Finland, with over 16 000
students, including international students from some 70 countries.
The Agora building represents the concept of a cooperative network for multi-disciplinary research including several departments and faculties. Agora emphasizes a multi-disciplinary, human-centered approach to information technology and to the future knowledge society, where research, education and enterprise are integrated into one functional whole. The event is hosted by the Department of Mathematical Information Technology with recognized achievements e.g. in scientific computing, optimal control and optimization.
